A Jig for Handcut Dovetails

  2 of 2

The inside face that clamps to the board must be hand planed so that it is flat.

I mark out the places I want to cut and saw them as seen in the next picture.

The result of my first attempt is shown below. I obviously need to do a little more practicing, but the point is that the joint went together. It fits!

Now I just have to practice. This isn’t as hard as I have always thought it was. I can actually cut dovetails by hand, and I never could do that before.

I also made this simple marking jig.  Rosewood and brass works well together.
