People collect woodworking tools to use them, some
collect them for their aesthetic appeal.
Sometimes the material used, workmanship, design,
and proportions elevate the tool to the highly
sought, artistic treasure. Some collect tools
because they love the rush of a hunt, restoration
work, and pride of ownership. For many of us,
collecting antique tools is a way of experiencing
history.
For me, using, handling,
and studying old tools creates a personal experience of
connection to the maker of the tool, previous user of
the tool and times that have gone by. For me it is
a look into the eyes of a craftsman that used the tool
to build a roof over the heads of his children, and put
the loaf of bread on the dinner table. It is a
connection with those who built our world.
